The Level III Course develops an understanding of snow pack formation and metamorphism. Observation guidelines and recording standards for factors that influence and indicate snowpack stability are presented. These days are designed for all experienced backcountry skiers and snowboarders, who have an interest in expanding their knowledge and understanding of snow stability and snow stability factors, for those who want to warm up their skills or who want to strengthen their know-how. Topics include: Snow stability factors, observing and recording weather, observing and recording the snow pack, observing and recording avalanche activity, stability analysis and forecasting and using the glide block test, "the hasty pit". Prerequisites Students must have the ability to travel in avalanche terrain. An Level II Course or equivalent training/experience is required.
