This advanced avalanche course addresses to all backcountry users wanting greater understanding and who are interested in decision making and leadership skills. But it is also designed for those who have an interest in expanding and warming up their knowledge and understanding of tour planning and hazard recognition. This advanced avalanche course consists of instruction in both lecture, video, discussion, and field study (at least 10 hrs) in the backcountry. The course is covering data collection, ICSI recording standards and documentation for weather, snowpack and observed avalanches. Topics include: introduction to snow metamorphism, guidelines and recording standards for weather , snow packs and avalanche observations, advanced route selection and decision making, avalanche recognition, snow profiles and evaluation, ski testing, and advanced avalanche beacon practice and rescue techniques.
